about

“That Tumble Down Shack in Athlone” is an early 20th century popular song in the "Irish genre," composed by Alma Sanders and Hans von Holstein, better known as Monte Carlo, with lyrics by Richard Pascoe. I found when I was looking for a song that used the common East Kentucky phrase “ramshackled shack." Despite the misrepresentation that all Appalachian are "Scots-‐Irish," I was struck by the connection these two songs shared.
